KUALA LUMPUR: The Prime Minister’s Department will be able to cut 60% of its operating expenditure after a rationalisation plan is carried out, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Liew Vui Keong said the initial development expenditure approved for this year was about RM12.2 billion for departments and agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department.
“After the rationalisation plan, the cost has been reduced by 60%. The new cost will come down to RM4.9 billion,” he said.
He said this in a written reply to Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir (PH-Johor Bahru) who asked the Prime Minister’s Department to state the cost savings under the new government compared to the previous administration.
As for operating expenditure, Liew said, several projects had been cancelled including the advisory and special ambassadors unit and National Professors Council, which would save the government RM100 million or 2% of the overall cost.
However, the total cost savings can only be determined after the rationalisation plan is implemented, Liew added. -FMT
