Nafas restructuring 95 pct complete, says Salahuddin
The process of restructuring the National Farmers Organisation (Nafas) which was facing problems of administration and leakage is now 95 percent completed, said Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Salahuddin Ayub.
He said Nafas would begin to operate as usual on Jan 15 after being suspended constitutionally since June 1 to enable the MACC and the police to carry out investigations.
"Through past experience and the issues resolved, the MACC would take action against those involved in fraudulent activities while I hope those still holding their positions would make Nafas more efficient in future,” he told reporters after officiating the 45th annual general meeting of Nafas in Putrajaya today.
Salahuddin said the Nafas general meeting attended by almost 500 delegates from throughout the country was proof that everyone involved had given their commitment to resolve the issues that had shackled the organisation.
He also hoped that the new leadership which would be appointed at the NAFAS election in November next year would have integrity in carrying out the trust of the members.
Last June, Salahuddin was reported as saying the Registrar of Farmers’ Organisation had issued a suspension order on Nafas following a report of the audit management made on March 26, 2018.
During the suspension period, the Registrar of the Farmers’ Organisation had appointed an administrator under Section 23 of Act 109 to manage Nafas affairs.
