Replace Waytha with Nurul: Terengganu Amanah Youth

Terengganu Amanah Youth has suggested that P Waythamoorthy be replaced with former PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar as a minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of unity and social well-being.

According to its chief Mohd Hasbie Muda, it is almost impossible to defend Waythamoorthy whose removal is being demanded by those within Pakatan Harapan as well as the opposition.

“Nurul is a breath of fresh air. She is a young leader who takes the moderate approach and understands the various communities,” he said.

“She has been accepted in the Malay-majority constituency of Permatang Pauh and the mixed seat of Lembah Pantai prior to that,” he told Malaysiakini.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he was satisfied with Waythamoorthy's performance.

"People can express their opinions, it is up to me to decide (if Waythamoorthy should be removed),” he had told reporters.

Meanwhile, Hasbie said while Mahathir might have had concrete reasons for appointing Waythamoorthy as a minister, the latter's performance, however, has been consistently criticised.

“I believe that as a government which listens to the people, a decision must be made immediately to remove Waythamoorthy,” he added.

Calls for the Hindraf leader to be axed from his position grew louder following the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim on Monday night.

According to the police, Adib was dragged out of a Fire and Rescue Department vehicle and assaulted during the riot outside the Sri Maha Mariamman temple in Subang Jaya on Nov 27.

Yesterday, Bersatu Youth submitted a memorandum to Mahathir demanding the minister's removal on the grounds that he had failed to contain the tension surrounding the temple issue.
