Two more arrested for toxic waste dumping in Pasir Gudang

Police have arrested two more suspects over the illegal dumping of chemical waste in Sungai Kim Kim, Pasir Gudang.
Johor police chief Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said the suspects were arrested in Pasir Gudang, near Johor Bahru, yesterday, after the arrest of nine individuals as announced by police on Monday.
Mohd Khalil said the two men were believed to be linked with the plant that was responsible for the disposal of the hazardous waste.
"The two suspects are responsible for allowing these (previous suspects) to transport the toxic material for the next plan of action.
“Apart from the arrest, police have also seized a vehicle which had been used for the waste disposal," Mohd Khalil told reporters outside Menara Aqabah in Johor Bahru last night.
He said the plant involved in the incident had also been identified to be located in Pasir Gudang.
Both suspects have been remanded for seven days from yesterday until March 25.
Mohd Khalil said one of the nine suspects who had been detained earlier was released on police bail after it was found that he was not involved in the pollution incident.
The eight other suspects, aged between 27 and 41, are being held until Saturday.
Mohd Khalil said the investigation papers would be completed as soon as possible for court action to proceed.
The case is being investigated under Sections 278, 284 and 326 of the Penal Code.
