Court to decide on Americk as Selvi’s lawyer
KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Court will hear lawyer Americk Sidhu’s application to discharge himself from representing A. Santamil Selvi in Court. Selvi is P. Balasubramaniam or PI Bala’s widow.
“The registrar fixed April 26 to hear my application to discharge myself as her solicitor,” he said when met at the High Court on Thursday.
Americk was referring to his appearance for the appeal brought by carpet dealer Deepak Jaikishan against Selvi.
The Court of Appeal allowed her appeal last year to reinstate the suit against Deepak, under her own capacity, on the grounds that the allegations of conspiracies in Selvi’s statement of claim need to be heard.
Americk said he wrote to Selvi many times to get her instructions on the case but she did not reply.
“I also wrote to the court to discharge myself. They said they wanted to hear a formal application,” said Americk.
Last month, he questioned Selvi’s claims that she withdrew her lawsuit against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, his wife and others. She claimed that she did it voluntarily, without “coercion from any parties”.
Last year, the Federal Court dismissed her application to amend her notice of appeal on the grounds that her application was “insufficient”.
Selvi previously filed one notice of appeal against eight orders made by the High Court to the Court of Appeal. However, the notice was struck out on the basis that it was defective. Apparently, she should have filed seven separate notices in the appeal instead of one notice.
