Bar Council ready to discuss motion on Shafee
KUALA LUMPUR: The motioner can decide if they want to table the motion on the alleged misconduct of lawyer Shafee Abdullah, said the Bar Council.
Its’ vice president V George Varughese said the motioner can take up the motion at next year’s annual general meeting (AGM). “There’s no need for an EGM (emergency general meeting) for that,” he said, in response to the court dismissing the lawsuit against the Bar Council by lawyer Shafee Abdullah.
“The court had reinstated the position that the Bar has the right to table and our members can discuss the motion.”
The Bar members were stopped from discussing Shafee’s conduct as a fiat prosecutor and lawyer after the Sodomy 2 conviction at last year’s AGM as he obtained an injunction.
Former president Christopher Leong said the court judgment had recognized and reaffirmed the critical function of the Bar.
Meanwhile, Shafee’s son, lawyer Farhan Shafee said they will be filing an appeal.
