Police shoot dead four suspected robbers
PETALING JAYA: Four suspected robbers were shot dead by the police this morning near the Sungai Long Toll Plaza, along the Kajang Silk Highway.
According to the New Straits Times (NST), the suspects were gunned down a few hours after they broke into a house in Taman Saujana Impian.
Selangor Police Chief Abdul Samah Mat said they were notified of the group’s attempted robbery when the victim’s house alarm was triggered at 3.15am.
He said initial investigations revealed the five suspects fled the house when its alarm was triggered.
“Following this, a team from the Selangor police Criminal Investigation Department’s Serious Crime Division was dispatched to investigate and hunt down the suspects.
“The team tracked the suspects’ to a forested area near the housing area and followed their trail along Sekamat River,” the NST quoted him as saying.
The policemen, he explained, spotted the suspects, who were armed with parangs, running along the river bank at about 6.15am.
Abdul Samah said police only opened fire when the suspects refused to surrender but charged at them instead.
“Checks revealed that the fifth suspect managed to run away, and we believe that he had sustained gunshot injuries based on a trail of blood found.”
Abdul Samah said a team from the General Operations Force has been deployed to track down the fifth suspect.
He said that the police also seized several parangs from the scene.
The Selangor police chief said they believed the suspects, aged between 20 and 30, were members of the Rantau Gang, notorious for breaking into homes in the Kajang area. Gang members were also believed to use the jungle as a getaway.
