Cobra kills dog in compound of house

PETALING JAYA: A cobra bit and killed an eight-year-old dog who tried to fend it off after it had found its way into the compound of a house in Perkampungan Berapit, Butterworth on Tuesday.

The dog, a Husky named Anna was apparently let out of her cage at around noon before the incident occurred.

“My son had just let Anna out of her cage and into our compound when she suddenly started barking.

“I was shocked to see that she was fending off a 2.4m-long cobra,” the dog’s owner, a 75-year-old woman explained.

She said that being too afraid of encountering the snake themselves, they contacted their area’s security volunteer team for help instead.

However by the time members of the team arrived, the snake had already bitten the dog, leaving it in a semi-conscious state.

“We then rushed her to the vet but it was too late,” the woman said.

It is believed the snake made a quick getaway.
