Teng confirms resignation from Gerakan committee
GEORGE TOWN: Penang Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Teng Chang Yeow today confirmed that he has resigned as a member of the Gerakan Central Committee in March.
However, he said, he remained as state BN chairman as he had not submitted any letter of resignation from this post.
“I am on leave as Penang Gerakan Liaison Committee chairman from May 15 to Nov 15 this year. My leave has been accepted by the Liaison Committee, and party president Mah Siew Kong has been informed about it,” he said in a statement here.
Teng, who was appointed as a member of the Gerakan Central Committee in 2013, said while on leave, Penang Gerakan vice-chairman Oh Tong Keong would be carrying out all the duties of the state chairman, as spelt out in the party’s constitution.
In May 2013, Teng resigned as Gerakan secretary-general and as state BN chairman following the party’s heavy defeat in Penang in the 13th general election, but was reappointed as state Gerakan chairman in April 2014.
He was appointed as state BN chairman in April 2012, replacing former Penang chief minister and Gerakan president Koh Tsu Koon.
