Significant improvement in govt agencies’ financial management
KUALA LUMPUR: The financial management performance by government agencies in 2015 has improved with 180 ministries, departments and agencies scoring excellent five-star ratings compared with 114 in 2014.
Auditor-General, Tan Sri Ambrin Buang, said the significant achievement showed that the implementation of the Accountability Index had encouraged the control officers to undertake improvement actions on financial management.
He said this in a statement in relation to three Auditor-General’s reports tabled in the Dewan Rakyat after getting the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The reports were the Financial Statement of the Federal Government 2015; Financial Management for Federal Government, Federal and State Statutory Bodies 2015; and Auditor-General’s Report 2015 Series 1 on Activities of the Federal Government, Federal and State Statutory Bodies.
Ambrin said for Series 1, a total of 70 performance audits and 18 management audits on government companies had been implemented at the federal and state levels.
The audits covered programmes, construction, maintenance, procurement, management, revenue and company management, he said.
Touching on revenue collection by the Federal Government, he said overall, it declined by RM1.537 billion (0.7 per cent) in 2015 compared with 2014.
Individual tax collection showed an increase of RM1.899 billion and collection from the Goods and Services Tax reached the target set at RM27 billion.
However, the reduction in petroleum tax revenue, corporate tax and petroleum royalties of RM15.397 billion, RM1.560 billion and RM1.389 billion, respectively, had contributed to the lower revenue of the Federal Governmemt in 2015.
Ambrin said the contents and synopsis of the three reports were available on the National Audit Department’s website at http://www.audit.gov.my and further enquiries should be addressed to Correspondence to the Auditor-General.
Besides that, a townhall session with the media on the reports will be held on May 24 in Putrajaya, which will be attended by the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa and Secretaries-General of the Ministries. — Bernama
