Hatyai police detain friend of deceased to assist in murder probe
HATYAI: Hatyai police detained a friend of the late Mohd Nizam Ahmad Basrah, who was shot dead two days ago, to assist in the investigation on the murder case.
Deputy Head of the Hatyai police, Khittichai Sankha-thavorn said the Thai male national, who was detained in the tourist town, was believed to be together with the victim before he was shot dead while riding a motorcycle.
“A special police team had been set up to resolve the murder case,” he told reporters, here yesterday.
The 28-year-old victim, who originated from Penang, was shot dead on Phadungpakdee Road while riding the motorcycle alone heading towards a hotel at about 3.30am.
His blood-soaked body was found lying down on the ground with two gunshot wounds in the chest and buttock.
Police also found two 9mm spent cartridges at the scene of the crime.
Khittichai also said that police were gathering several key information that could help in determining the motive for the murder. — Bernama
