Husam: BN wanted to help me topple Kelantan MB
KUALA LUMPUR : Sacked PAS leader Husam Musa claims that BN representatives had agreed to help him and other Kelantan state assemblymen in a no-confidence vote in Kelantan to oust Menteri Besar Ahmad Yaakob.
However, Husam said he rejected the offer as he did not want to anger the people of Kelantan or plunge the state into disarray as in the 1977 crisis where Emergency was declared and the state PAS government fell.
“If you ask BN this, they will deny it. However, the BN ADUNs (assemblymen) agreed to give statutory declarations to oust Ahmad Yaakob.
“I remembered the 1977-78 crisis, the Kelantan people may get angry again. I don’t want any party to take advantage of the situation.
“I don’t want the PAS government to fall without dignity again,” he told about 200 people attending the “Dialogue with Husam” session at the Kuala Lumpur-Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall last night.
In 1977, then MB Mohamad Nasir was experiencing dissatisfaction within PAS and was accused of defying party instructions.
A no-confidence motion was tabled in the state assembly where 20 PAS assemblymen supported the motion while 13 Umno and 1 MCA assemblyman walked out in protest, with street violence and demonstrations escalating in the next few days.
On Nov 8, 1977, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, then also the Sultan of Kelantan, declared a state of emergency and PAS, who was in BN at that time, was expelled from the coalition.
Husam, one-time protege of the late PAS spiritual leader and Kelantan MB Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, was sacked earlier this month by the Islamic party’s disciplinary board following his criticism of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and the Kelantan government.
