‘Couple in man-kicks-wife scene on video, referred to religious department’
KUANTAN: A couple in a domestic violence scene that has gone viral on social media following a video recording of the man kicking his wife who is still in confinement, has been referred to the Pahang Islamic Religious Department (JAIP).
Kuantan district police chief, ACP Abdul Aziz Salleh said the action was taken after the 25-year-housewife refused to lodge a police report on the incident which took place at a laundry shop, although she was advised to do so on Monday.
“The woman does not want her husband, a 25-year-old labourer, to face action. Therefore, we have left it to JAIP to act, such as giving counselling.
“We don’t want the public to think that police are not taking any action in this case although the video clip has gone viral on Facebook,” he said at a news conference, here, yesterday.
Abdul Aziz also confirmed that the woman, from Kuantan, had never made a police report against her husband.
He said the owner of the laundry shop in Jalan Mat Kilau, here, had also lodged a police report to deny that he was the person who shared the one-minute video recording on Facebook.
“He said he only realised the incident after watching again the CCTV recording of it with a friend. The friend’s nephew who was present, had allegedly shared the video clip,” Abdul Aziz said.
However, police would not be taking action against the individual, he added.
The video showed the victim’s husband who was in front of the laundry shop, throwing a plastic basket at the woman before going inside the shop and kicking her at the waist.
However, the man also slipped and fell to the floor after stepping on some clothing.
The woman, who appeared to be in pain from the assault, had recently given birth to her second child. — Bernama
