Tee: Don’t be ‘pondan’, fight for Shariah amendment

ridhuan-tee-hududPETALING JAYA: Controversial preacher Ridhuan Tee Abdullah today reprimanded Muslims, some of whom he said were not willing to stand up against those opposing the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) (Amendment) Bill 2016.

In a piece published in his Sinar Harian column today, Tee wondered out loud why some were cowed by detractors to the legislation, which was brought forward as a Private Member’s Bill and tabled in Parliament last week.

“Don’t be a pondan,” the UniSza lecturer wrote, using a slur normally directed at effeminate men.

Tee also said he wondered if Muslims were still blind to the plans of the enemies of Islam, whom he claimed were mostly “Christian evangelists” although he did not explain how he arrived at such a conclusion.

Earlier in his column, Tee trained his guns on the “ultra kiasu”, a term usually reserved to describe the Chinese, in particular those in opposition party DAP, although he used it this time when referring to those in the Barisan Nasional as well.

He pointed out that the Bill to elevate the status of the Shariah court received the biggest protest from the “ultra kiasu” even though it had nothing to do with them.

“This is the real enemy,” Tee said with finality.

On Thursday, the contentious Bill, which will pave the way for hudud law to be implemented in Kelantan, was brought forward for debate in Parliament.

Although the motion was passed, PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang requested the debate on the Bill be postponed till the next Dewan Rakyat sitting.

The tabling of the Private Member’s Bill however led to an outcry by many politicians from across the divide with BN component party leaders from MCA, MIC and Gerakan threatening to resign from their Cabinet posts should the Bill be eventually passed.
