KOTA KINABALU: Twenty-two people were rescued this morning (June 24) after their boat sank off the west coast of Sabah yesterday.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Sabah and Labuan regional director First Admiral Mohd Zubil Mat Som confirmed today that they had picked up the passengers at 8.30am, Malay Mail Online reports.

The 22 passengers, which included 12 Chinese tourists, were on their way back to the Kuala Abai jetty from Mantanani island when the 39-foot catamaran they were travelling in sprung a leak at about 4pm yesterday, forcing them to spend the night on Mantanani.
