Amanah youth says sorry for invective, leader suggests reporter provoked it

The incident reportedly took place during a news conference on the Kuala Kangsar by-election campaign trail when an Amanah Youth member barred entry to a reporter from news portal Malaysiakini.

In a video clip of the incident that was later uploaded on the Internet, the party member could be heard hurling an invective against the female reporter

“Based on the dialogue, they must have had some history. The journalist might have caused the provocation,” Khalid told a news conference here.

The Shah Alam MP defended his party colleague’s remarks and insisted that the latter was not verbally abusing the reporter.

He added that the colloquial word used was not an obscenity but only meant “arrogant”.

However, Amanah strategic director Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad promised the party will investigate the incident and take action against the member if found guilty.

“We shall make sure that it shall not repeat. We will practise not just restrain but due rights,” he said.

In a statement, Perak Amanah identified the youth in the ruckus as Hasnol Zulkarnain, the vice-chief of its state Youth wing.

The wing apologised for the conduct of its member.
