BN lawmaker accused of buying land below market price
SUNGAI BESAR: A Barisan Nasional (BN) parliamentarian has been accused of buying a plot of land at below market price and selling it to a non-Bumiputera buyer.
PKR Youth Information Chief Lee Chean Chung alleged that the privately-owned land was purchased by the buyer for RM76,499 even though the land was valued in 2002, according to stamp duty valuation, at RM213,000.
Lee alleged that the BN parliamentarian then sold the 141,071.67 sq ft parcel of land to a Chinese buyer in 2004 for RM397,683.02.
“The profit made from the sale was RM321,184.02. The land was sold at five times the price,” Lee said at a press conference in the PKR Sungai Besar office today.
Lee alleged that the BN parliamentarian had at the time of the 2002 purchase held an office in a state government.
“He clearly bought the land at a lower price and there was a conflict of interest in the purchase of the land.”
FMT is currently working to reach the concerned parliamentarian for an explanation on the matter.
PKR Vice-President Tian Chua said this case carried no similarity with that of DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng, who had bought a bungalow in Jalan Pinhorn, Penang, at below the market price.
“The land’s status is what intrigues me. Was it Bumiputera land?
“The land value for Bumiputeras is much less than the usual price. If it is sold to non-Bumiputeras, the value should shoot up.”
