Selldown in heavyweights knocks Bursa Malaysia at the close

KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — Bursa Malaysia ended lower today, weighed down by selling activities in most heavyweights led by CIMB, MISC and Petronas Chemicals.     

At 5pm, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,614.90, down 13.06 points, after fluctuating between 1,613.79 and 1,629.47 throughout the day. It opened 0.91 point higher at 1,628.89.

CIMB trimmed 14 sen to RM4.20, MISC shed 25 sen to RM7.25, Petronas Chemicals declined 13 sen to RM6.31 and Maybank depreciated 10 sen to RM8.03.

Of the other heavyweights, TNB gained two sen to RM13.98 while Public Bank, Sime Darby and Petronas Gas were flat at RM19.14, RM7.94 and RM21.40 respectively.

As for actives, Trive Property inched down half-a-sen to eight sen, SapuraKencana gave up nine sen to RM1.43, Bumi Armada eased 2.5 sen to 69.5 sen and AirAsia weakened nine sen to RM2.56.

In a note today, Hong Leong Investment Bank said investors stayed cautious over the uncertainty surrounding the looming United Kingdom referendum on a possible exit from the European Union as well as correction in oil prices.

On the broader market, losers trounced gainers 591 to 195 with 363 counters unchanged, 567 untraded and 18 others suspended.

Volume was slightly higher at 1.57 billion units worth RM1.55 billion from 1.53 billion units worth RM1.45 billion yesterday.

The FBM Emas Index went down 89.82 points to 11,306.21, the FBMT 100 Index fell 87.31 points to 11,006.96 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index lost 77.35 points to 11,882.55.

The FBM 70 declined 95.55 points to 12,827.29 and the FBM Ace surrendered 102.46 points to 5,270.54.

The Finance Index decreased 116.43 points to 13,955.93, the Plantation Index eased 24.77 points to 7,543.87 and the Industrial Index lost 31.56 points to 3,028.14.

Main Market turnover increased to 992.60 million shares worth RM1.47 billion from 830.75 million shares worth RM1.35 billion yesterday.  

The ACE Market volume decreased to 338.33 million shares worth RM49.04 million from yesterday’s 441.50 million shares worth RM64.81 million.

Warrants declined to 237.77 million shares worth RM33.04 million from 258.68 million shares worth RM31.97 million previously.

Consumer products accounted for 109.02 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (229.12 million), construction (37.08 million), trade and services (350.40 million), technology (98.07 million), infrastructure (8.94 million), SPAC (8.96 million), finance (39.85 million), hotels (1.37 million), properties (62.93 million), plantations (39.19 million), mining (5,000), REITs (7.67 million) and closed/fund (13,000). — Bernama
