Education Ministry monitors non-performing teachers, says minister
KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 ― Teachers who do not perform well are monitored by the Education Ministry and will be transferred, if necessary, the Dewan Negara was told today.
Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan said currently the task of monitoring the teachers was being conducted by the ministry's School Inspectorate and Quality Assurance Division.
“We also rely on schools to give the report on the performance of the teachers concerned, and if their performance do not meet the standard, the ministry can transfer them,” he added.
He was responding to a suggestion by Senator Datuk Abdullah Mat Yassim for teachers who had been at a school for between five and 10 years, but not performing, to be transferred to other school.
To a supplementary question from Senator Datuk Dr Lucas Umbul on steps taken by the ministry to assist graduates from Teachers Education Institute in Sabah to obtain placement, Kamalanathan said it was done periodically.
He said a total of 276 teachers were given placement in schools in Sabah and Sarawak this month, and another 183 teachers would be placed in schools in the peninsula.
“These teachers have gone through the interview. From this month until end of the year, there will be retirement, and when retirement takes place, teachers who have been interviewed will fill the vacancies,” he added. ― Bernama
