Kedah RTD lodges police report over FB graft claim
ALOR STAR: The Kedah Road Transport Department (RTD) today lodged a police report over an allegation of corruption involving a RTD staff member, which has gone viral on Facebook since Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, a man had uploaded on Facebook several photographs of the RTD staff who allegedly demanded RM300 from a senior citizen found to have parked his vehicle at a disabled parking bay in Padang Serai, Kulim.
Kedah RTD Director Ismasuhaimi Shariff, when contacted, said the report, lodged at 10.34 am at the Kuala Ketil police station, was made to clear the name of the department and the officer involved as the allegation was untrue.
“The RTD officer was only issuing a notice under Section 61(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 to the vehicle owner without summons.
“In addition, an inspection was made after the man was found to have committed an offence related to his car registration number and not because he had parked at a disabled parking bay,” he said.
Ismasuhaimi said action could be taken against the person who uploaded and the photographs for disseminating false or misleading information to the public.
He also expressed hope that the public would not be easily influenced by such information.
“I urge the public to refrain from uploading and sharing unverified information because they too can be penalised. If there was a misconduct, lodge a complaint through proper channels and we will investigate the matter,” he added.
