Son who dug up grave to bring mum back to life

Supriyanto

JAKARTA: A man believing in his dreams that his dead mother was still alive was willing to dig up her grave in the hope of bringing her corpse back to life with special religious rites.

The bizarre act of the man known as Supriyanto, 47, from Kampung Dusun Ngrancang in Kedu, Temanggung district, Central Jawa, was discovered by villagers after a month and a police report was subsequently lodged.

Antara news agency quoted Temanggung police chief Wahyu Wim Hardjanto as saying that Supriyanto was arrested together with two friends, believed to be his accomplices, who helped him dig his late mother’s grave and take home the remains of the woman named Parimah.

He said, Parimah, 70, passed away on April 14 this year.

After being buried for 40 days, Suprianto, who is her eldest child, had asked help from his friends after sharing his dream with them.

“We (police) received information from the community about him (Suprianto) digging up his mother’s grave.

“He had already dug up his mother’s grave last month with the excuse of being able to revive her back to life,” said Wahyu.

Investigations revealed that the suspect with his friends had dug up the grave and brought the corpse to Supriyanto’s home at midnight on May 25.

According to a merdeka.com report, Supriyanto had done so as he loved and missed his late mother very much and believed she had only fainted.

Due to the nature of the crime, which was deemed “strange”, Supriyanto and his friends will be charged under Article 180 of the Indonesian law, which carries 16 months’ jail, if found guilty.
