Kit Siang urges PM to reconsider Rulers’ input to revise NSC Act before rollout
SABAK BERNAM, June 10 — Opposition lawmaker Lim Kit Siang called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today to reconsider the suggestions by the Conference of Rulers before implementing the controversial National Security Council (NSC) Act 2016.
He noted that the law was gazetted two days ago without the express assent of the Malay Rulers.
The monarchs were previously reported to have asked for the security law that empowers the federal government to declare localised emergencies to be refined.
“It is very clear it is [an act] of disrespect and contempt towards the Conference of Rulers for not listening to their suggestions.
“I therefore hope Najib will take this into account and make an announcement that he would make the necessary changes to the Bill,” the DAP parliamentary leader told reporters during a walkabout in Sekinchan.
