PAS says no hard feelings if PKR backs Amanah in by-elections
KOTA BARU, June 2 ― PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said his party will “not be offended” if PKR, its partner in the Selangor government, campaigns for the Islamist party's splinter, Amanah, in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar polls.
PKR and Amanah are partners in the Pakatan Harapan pact, but the latter rivals PAS, who maintains that it was still allied with PKR despite the collapse of the Pakatan Rakyat pact.
“We have no issues. We will not be offended. This is a parliamentary by election, not a state one,” Abdul Hadi said, when asked if PKR backing Amanah would affect ties in the Selangor government.
Amanah announced its candidate for Sungai Besar yesterday, and is expected to do so in Kuala Kangsar today. PAS is contesting both.
It will be the first time the months-old party formed by former PAS members will face the older Islamist party in an election.
