PAS too busy for #TangkapMO1 rally
PETALING JAYA: PAS has not instructed its members to attend the student-organised #TangkapMO1 rally tomorrow, its Ulama Council has said.
According to PAS Ulama Chief Mahfodz Mohamed, the party is involved in other programmes of its own.
“As far as I know, there has been no instruction from PAS to attend the #TangkapMO1 demonstration. We have our own programmes tomorrow,” he said when contacted by FMT.
Reporters were unable to ask him about the supposed programmes mentioned.
#TangkapMO1 spokesperson Anis Syafiqah Md Yusoh said that except for PAS, all Opposition parties and Umno members displeased with Umno President and Prime Minister Najib Razak have announced their support for tomorrow’s rally.
Among those who have expressed their desire to join the rally are electoral watchdog Bersih 2.0, Pakatan Harapan’s Youth wing, Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram), Lawyers for Liberty, Persatuan Hak Asasi Manusia Kebangsaan (Hakam), Sisters in Islam and Amanah Youth.
“The students under PAS have kept quiet and not responded,” she said, saying that she was aware a demonstration without PAS would probably mean low Muslim-Malay attendance.
“We do need as many people as possible, but it’s all right if that’s PAS’s stance on the matter,” she added.
The #TangkapMO1 rally will reportedly be held at Dataran Merdeka despite the organisers having not having obtained permission from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar meanwhile said police would ease the organising of #TangkapMO1 if the organisers cooperated with the authorities.
