Surendran to amend application on sedition charge
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court has allowed Padang Serai MP N Surendran to amend his application on a sedition charge.
Sessions Court Judge Zaman Mohd Noor has allowed the MP, also a lawyer, to add more details to questions on the constitutionality of his charge.
Judge Zaman fixed Nov 22 to hear Surendran’s application.
Surendran had posed three questions for the High Court pertaining to the Sedition Act – whether it is valid law, on the Act not requiring the element of intention, and the fundamental liberties in the Federal Constitution.
Surendran was represented by lawyers M Puravalen and Latheefa Koya.
Ahmad Sazilee Abdul Khairi appeared for the prosecution.
Surendran claimed trial in 2014 for alleging that Anwar Ibrahim’s Sodomy 2 conviction was politically motivated.
He represented Anwar in the Sodomy 2 trial in 2014, which had overturned the original High Court acquittal in 2012, after the government appealed.
