DON’T TALK NONSENSE APANDI: IF YOU ARE PROFESSIONAL & NOT AFRAID OF NAJIB, THEN SHOW THE RM2.6BIL MONEY TRAIL – GOBIND

APANDI Ali should reveal the money trail to support his finding that the RM2.6 billion deposited into Prime Minister Najib Razak’s account was a donation, DAP national legal bureau secretary Gobind Singh Deo has said about the attorney general.

“What is the difficulty in doing that? Apandi of all people should know that it is a most basic principle of natural justice that no person can judge a matter in which they themselves have an interest,” said the Puchong MP, adding that the AG should convince Malaysians with facts to show that Najib was not involved in any of the scandals in 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), instead of saying that he feared nobody.

Until May last year, the prime minister had been chairman of the 1MDB advisory board.

Gobind said the AG should produce a report with documents to prove the money trail, allow it to be made public and presented to Parliament.

“Thus, declarations on his part in cases like these where his conduct as AG is questioned, have little effect.

“He should be brave and take up my challenge. After all, as he says, he has done no wrong and there is nothing to hide,” Gobind said in a statement today.

Earlier today, Apandi released a statement in which he said he feared no man, “not even former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad”, in response to Dr Mahathir’s claim in front of a 2,000-strong crowd at a Pakatan Harapan ceramah last night that Apandi could be held culpable for hiding evidence in connection with 1MDB.

Apandi told The Malaysian Insight: “Whatever I do as the AG is based on the available facts as contained in the investigation papers. There is nothing to hide.”

The RM2.6 billion was transferred into Najib’s account shortly before the 13th general election in 2013. It was alleged to be linked to 1MDB, but it was later called a donation from the Saudi Arabian royal family.

The AG said Najib then returned most of the money and did not find him involved in any wrongdoing related to 1MDB.
