WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON! MAHATHIR TO VISIT ZAHID’S MINISTRY WITH TOP HARAPAN LEADERS OVER ROS DELAY IN REGISTERING COALITION

DR Mahathir Mohamad will lead a delegation to the Home Ministry tomorrow to question the Registrar Societies’ (RoS) delay in registering Pakatan Harapan.
The PH leadership is concerned that RoS is delaying the registration of the opposition coalition despite fulfilling all the conditions.
PH applied for registration to the RoS on July 24.
A senior PH leader said the delegation of PH leaders will be led by Dr Mahathir, who is its chairman.
The PH leader said there could not be any more delays in view of the coming 14th general election, which must be called by next August.
“Dr Mahathir and every party leader in PH will go to KDN (Home Ministry) on November 15 to ask why PH’s registration is delayed,” the PH leader said.
“All the conditions have been fulfilled, what else do they want?
“Is RoS deliberately delaying the registration so that voters will not recognise the PH logo in the 14th general election?” he added.
RoS is a department under the Home Ministry, overseeing the affairs of non-governmental organisations, societies and political parties.
Another PH leader told The Malaysian Insight that RoS had sent a letter to PH on November 2 regarding its registration status.
In the letter, made available to The Malaysian Insight, RoS said PH’s application was still under consideration. The letter, which was signed by director-general Surayati Ibrahim, did not explain why the registration was being delayed.
“It is informed that the application for the Pakatan Harapan registration is still under consideration by this department.
“Therefore, any decision on the application for the registration of this party will be conveyed to the organising committee (PH secretary-general Saifuddin Abdullah).”
Last month, PH leaders questioned RoS’ delay in registering the opposition coalition, which comprise Bersatu, PKR, Amanah and DAP, causing them to wait almost 100 days.
PKR strategy director Sim Tze Tzin said RoS’ rationale that the delay was due to security and public interest concerns were unacceptable.
In an oral reply in Dewan Rakyat on October 23, the Home Ministry said RoS was responsible for vetting every political party’s application to safeguard the security of the country and public interest.
“The Registrar of Societies of Malaysia (RoS) is responsible for examining every application for the registration of political parties in detail to ensure the security and public interest aspects are preserved.”
Sim, who is the Bayan Baru MP, had asked the Home Ministry to explain the reason for the delay and what were the additional terms and criteria required by RoS.
The ministry, however, said that there were no additional terms and criteria required but the application was still under consideration.
