Jamal taking the law into his own hands, says Zaid
PETALING JAYA: Former de facto law minister Zaid Ibrahim today expressed concern for his safety and that of his family after Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Yunos threatened to take a sledgehammer to his head.
In a text message to FMT, Zaid said Jamal and Selangor Umno were taking the law into their own hands.
“I hope the police and inspector-general of police will do their best to ensure our safety,” he added.
Earlier today, Jamal had used a sledgehammer on a cardboard cutout of Zaid, saying he would “hammer” the DAP politician’s head if no action was taken against him for his criticism of the Selangor sultan.
The Red Shirts leader said the people of Selangor had lost patience over the fact that no action was taken against Zaid.
“We will use this hammer to hammer his head. This is a stern warning. We in Selangor do not wish to see our rulers insulted,” he said in front of the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC).
On Wednesday, Jamal and his followers had also burnt two life-sized effigies of Zaid in front of the PWTC entrance.
This was after Zaid took to Twitter to “advise” Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah over his comments on Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
In an interview with The Star, Sultan Sharafuddin had said Mahathir’s political agenda was motivated by “deep hatred” and that “his anger will burn the whole country”.
Zaid had responded to this, saying, “The Selangor sultan should be careful with his words. No one is immune when the country burns.” -FMT
