Family left homeless by afternoon fire
LIMBANG: A family of six are left homeless after fire razed their double storey semi-wooden house at Kampung Malaganggai here yesterday.
The family ran helter-skelter to escape the blazing fire at 11.53am, leaving grandmother Rosni Omar, 60, and her family in tears over the loss. The family, which included Rosni’s son and three grandchildren, were getting ready for lunch when a neighbour shouted frantically that their house was on fire.
She rushed out of the living room and immediately reacted to gather all her family members to flee to safety.
“The fire spread so fast, and we could not save anything valuable or documents,” the traumatised victim said.
Rosni has just finished cooking and the family was about to have lunch when the incident occurred. Her husband, Salim Jumat, son Jimmy and grandchildren Wina, Wana and Wandi were all in the living room
In the haste to escape, the grandmother only managed to snatch her wallet.
Meanwhile, Limbang Zone fire chief Edmund Dmahai Amboh said the fire station received a call at 11.53am
A team of 12 officers and men led by Senior Fire Officer II Mohamad Ali Mohd Salleh rushed out in three vehicles to the scene 6km away, but the house was already destroyed when they reached there.
The firemen could only put out the embers before halting the operation at 1.35pm.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
