Sellers of pirated Dayak music be warned
SIBU: Enforcement officer of the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism raided three premises here this month to combat piracy of Dayak music, especially festive songs, with seizures totalling nearly RM10,000.
According to the ministry’s Sibu branch chief Kasim Mana, the raid was carried out in conjunction with Gawai Dayak celebration.
“A total of 1,904 pirated discs worth RM9,890 were confiscated from three premises, which were being investigated under Regulation 4(4)a) of Trade Descriptions (Optical Disc Label) Order 2010.
“We have intensified our efforts to clamp down on the menace with the festivity just around the corner,” Kasim said when contacted yesterday.
On the penalty, he warned that offenders could be fined up to RM100,000 or sentenced to three years f jail, or both on conviction. He also reminded members of the public to go for the original versions of the discs only.
On another matter, Kasim said suppliers here had assured them of adequate supply of essential items for the coming festive celebration.
“Our enforcement officers are regularly on the ground to monitor the situation, h he said.
He added that the ministry had acted on 86 cases here for flouting various Acts from January till May 12 this year and issued 70 compounds.
Kasim advised consumers to call them at 084-329202 or 335622 should they spot a hike in the prices of essential items or unhealthy business practices.
“We urge the public to continue to become our eyes and ears. Be smart consumers by comparing prices and go for the best deal. Be prudent with one fs spending during this festive celebration,” he said.
