KUCHING: The reappointment of Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh as Second Finance Minister would allow him to give his undivided attention to the state’s financial management.

Previously, the Bawang Assan assemblyman was the Local Government and Community Development Minister — a portfolio that is now held by Senator Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian under the name ‘Ministry of Local Government’.

Wong, met after the swearing-in ceremony yesterday, responded: “Well, it is OK,” when first asked by reporters for comments.

He then continued: “I will be focusing on finance management now. Sarawak needs financial restructuring; as you know, our revenues have been reduced.

“We need to come up with policies to better manage our finances. Maybe the chief minister wanted me to focus on Ministry of Finance to better serve the state.”

Asked on what policies he would be working on, Wong said: “We will talk about this later.”
