Masing priority: Roads to open up hinterland
KUCHING: Improving greater accessibility to the rural areas in order to open up more land for development to boost better income among the rural
populace will be his ministry’s top priority in the next five years, said newly appointed Deputy Chief Minister II and Minister of Infrastructure Development and Transportation Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing yesterday.
He also stressed that the state government’s rural transformation programme will take into account the improvement of better connectivity, especially roads in rural areas.
“My focus will be on roads in the rural areas which I will improve accessibility, for land that has been left idle for a long time.
“As the minister-in-charge, now I can create access to all these areas so that they could be developed,” Masing told media after he took his oath of office at the DUN complex here yesterday.
Masing, who is also PRS president, thanked Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem for his confidence and trust in him.
“Yes, I am very happy for this appointment and I would like to thank the chief minister for appointing me as one of the deputy chief ministers,” he said.
The former Minister of Land Development stressed that he would now able to connect road to the land, which he has managed in his previous portfolio.
The Land Development Ministry has been absorbed into the Ministry of Modernisation of Agriculture and Rural Development which is now under Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
