SWB apologises over tanker incident
SIBU: Sibu Water Board (SWB) yesterday regretted the inconvenience caused to the public by the collapse of a cement road leading to SK Sebintek on May 11.
SWB general manager Dato Alice Jawan apologised to the residents affected, particularly students. She said a water tanker of SWB was wheeling on the cement road when the road suddenly gave way around 4.30pm.
SWB immediately informed Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) and lodged a police report.
She said the water tanker had just delivered water to the school and residents when the accident struck.
“The road suddenly collapsed as its structure had been weakened by soil erosion. The water tanker slipped down the roadside and overturned,” she recalled.
An SWB staffer sustained minor injuries and was sent to a polyclinic. SWD removed the water tanker yesterday.
SRDC is expected to carry out the road repair and for the time being, students of SK Sebintek have to use a detour.
