Kafir harbi remark uncalled for, says Perkasa
KUALA LUMPUR: Labelling DAP as ‘Kafir Harbi’ was over the line, said Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali today.
Ibrahim, whose Malay rights group has often tangled with the DAP, felt the remark by Pahang mufti Dr Abdul Rahman Osman that it was a “huge sin” for Muslims to be working with DAP, was uncalled for.
“Although we disagree on many issues, I think it’s uncalled for to label DAP as kafir harbi. We don’t want to create a bad image of Islam by making such statements,” Ibrahim briefly said at a press conference today.
In an article in Utusan Malaysia yesterday, Abdul Rahman said that because DAP appeared to be against the implementation of Islamic laws, it was haram for Muslims to work hand-in-hand with the opposition party.
Abdul Rahman also said the “hate politics” practiced by DAP was worrying and could lead to chaos in the country.
The statement has since come under fire from several parties, including the DAP and MCA.
