Muhyiddin: I won’t stop fighting

PETALING JAYA: Muhyiddin Yassin, expelled from Umno yesterday, has vowed to not let his sacking get in the way of the truth.

He said his expulsion was unjust and unconstitutional but he would not appeal against the decision.

Also expelled with him was Supreme Council member Mukhriz Mahathir, whose father has led a year-long campaign to oust Najib. An ally, Shafie Apdal, was suspended.

In a statement today, Muhyiddin stood his ground against Umno’s actions and maintained that he was fired simply because he took the “brave step” to speak up against the controversies surrounding Umno president Najib Razak, who is the prime minister.

“I was fired because of what I have said about the biggest moral and financial scandals in the history of Umno and the country. All this happened because we (Muhyiddin, Mukhriz Mahathir) took the brave step to voice out against the PM,” said Muhyiddin.

“I am very disappointed because the Umno today is no longer the real Umno. It has become a party that is led by an individual who is willing to do anything to hide his wrongdoings and save himself.”

He said his sacking was very much expected, but said that his memories in Umno will live on. “I have never betrayed Umno. I am only against a corrupt Umno leader.

“However, I will keep fighting. They can do whatever they want to break my spirit, but the torch in my soul will continue burning.

He urged his supporters and other Malaysians to distinguish between right and wrong, good and bad: and not let the country be run by “a corrupt leader who abuses his power”.

Umno said yesterday the party decided to expel the two men because they had shared the stage with members of opposition parties and signed the Citizens’ Declaration petitioning for Najib’s removal. The Supreme Council decided that the pair had breached party discipline.

Muhyiddin was dismissed from the Cabinet last year after critiising Najib about the financial affairs and investments of the government’s investment arm, 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
