Cops arrest author who sent offensive image of PM via WhatsApp
JOHOR BARU, July 2 ― A 76-year-old author was arrested today after he allegedly sent an offensive image of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak via WhatsApp.
Johor Police chief Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said the man was arrested at his home in Kampung Tunku, Petaling Jaya, Selangor at 12.15pm today following a police report yesterday.
“The police seized a Samsung G5 mobile phone from the man who will be remanded in the Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
“The suspect was found to have uploaded the image under the name 'Pa Ya' in the WhatApps group 'Bicara Politik Melayu' aimed at insulting and offending Malaysians,” he said in a statement.
Investigations are conducted under Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 which carries a fine not more RM50,000 or maximum one year's jail sentence or both upon conviction. ― Bernama
