Noraishah who works as an accountant at a private company in Subang Jaya said the LRT service had really helped reduce her daily expenses.

“The LRT is a great help, because if I were to drive to work I have to consider the money I have to spend for petrol, toll and time wasted in the traffic jam.

“Just now I took the train at Putra Heights and alighted at the Taipan Station which only costs me RM1.70 for a one-way trip,” she told Bernama.

Noraishah is among 800,000 residents in Subang Jaya who have benefited from the Kelana Jaya and Ampang LRT extension project with the construction of 25 new stations in densely populated areas.

Part of the Ampang LRT extension project was already operating in October last year, involving Awan Besar, Muhibbah, Alam Sutera and Kinrara B5 stations, while four other stations, IOI Puchong Jaya, Pusat Bandar Puchong, Puchong Industrial Park, Bandar Puteri, Subang Jaya and Putra Heights started operating on Thursday.

Meanwhile Jasnim Che Ahmad, who lives in Subang Jaya, said the opening of the Subang Jaya LRT Station makes travelling to Kuala Lumpur convenient for her.

The housewife said before this she had no other choice but to drive her car to get to the federal capital.

“I travel to Kuala Lumpur not simply to shop but to send my son to college at Taman Shamelin, Cheras.

“We are so thankful to have the LRT because it has helped ease my family's burden,” she said.

Now her son takes the LRT from the Subang Jaya station direct to Taman Maluri Station which is only about 2km away from his college.

Additionally the fares charged for trips along the extended LRT lines in Kelana Jaya and Ampang are deemed reasonable, for example travelling from Putra Heights to KLCC only takes an hour and the fare costs RM3.40 per trip.

Commuters travelling from Putra Heights integrated Ssation to Gombak only pay RM4.40; Putra Heights to KL Sentral (RM3.20) and from Putra Heights to Plaza Rakyat RM3.20.

Meanwhile, Nur Haniz Mohd Nur, a lecturer at a private higher institution also welcomed the LRT services which is now accessible for her at Alam Megah.

Nur Haniz, who has been living in the area for more than 10 years, said with the Alam Megah LRT station now available along the Kelana Jaya line she was more inclined to take the train as her mode of transport.

Previously Nur Haniz chose to drive her car to get from one location to another as public transport services were very limited.

“My workplace is in Wangsa Maju, so with the LRT it is more convenient and I only have to pay RM4.40 to get to Wangsa Maju from Alam Megah station compared to RM10 if I were to drive,” she said.

Beginning last Thursday residents in Putra Heights, USJ, Subang Jaya, Puchong, Bandar Kinrara and Bukit Jalil were able to commute daily to Kuala Lumpur by LRT ― one of the nation's development initiatives to improve and integrate the city's public transportation services, which is one of the key result areas under the government's transformation programme.

Constructed with an allocation of RM8 billion, the network connection covers 46.4 kilometres which runs across densely populated areas.
