Liverpool deal in danger as rivals swoop in with better offer
Our deal to sign Piotr Zielinski looks in serious danger if the latest reports are to be believed, with Napoli having a bid accepted while ours has been turned down.
Neil Jones of the Liverpool Echo reports that both ourselves and Napoli have made €14m bids, but Napoli’s has been accepted while ours has not. The reason is that the Serie A side have also offered Juan Camilo Zuniga in part exchange, so Udinese see it as a far more appealing offer.
Bizarre one. #LFC offer of €14m for Zielinski rejected by Udinese. Napoli offer of €14m for Zielinski accepted by Udinese.

Suggestions that Napoli bid for Zielinski includes a player as p/x (Zuniga). Player clear that he wants #LFC https://t.co/YoDZAQ5ADu

This comes in spite of the Polish international recently all but committing himself to Liverpool, with the player apparently promising that he’d be joining Liverpool this summer (via the Daily Star).
It seems that if he’s to have any hope of keeping that promise then we’re going to need to up our offer though, unless Udinese have a change of heart or something changes drastically.

If Zielinski really is looking to force through a move to Liverpool, then he obviously doesn’t have to accept the personal terms on offer from Napoli. That won’t help us unless Udinese accept our offer though, so it could depend on how much of a fuss the 22-year-old kicks up.
