Technical error causes non-recognition of New Caledonia-Malaysia match
KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 ― A technical error caused the status “A” friendly match between New Caledonia and Malaysia to be withdrawn by the International Football Federation (Fifa).
Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) general secretary Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said the New Caledonian Football Federation (FCF) was told to use officals listed by Fifa but instead used two assistant referees not on the list.
“Article 10.1 of Fifa Regulations Governing International Matches clearly states the host must ensure that the referees and assistant referees for status
“A” matches be among those who are in the updated list.
“This caused the match which Malaysia won 2-1 to be disregarded by Fifa and thus no points were awarded for ranking which will updated on July 14.
“What happened is not due to FAM 's mistake as we followed the procedures in applying for the status “A” match from Fifa,” said Hamidin in a statement today.
He added the FAM will appeal to Fifa so that the New Caledonia-Malayia match be recognised as status “A” match complete with supporting documents.
Malaysia lost 0-2 to Papua New Guinea, drew 1-1 with Fiji and won 2-1 against New Caledonia in the Oceania Tour international friendly matches last month. ― Bernama
