‘I hope to play at Liverpool next season’, says Italian star

Mario Balotelli believes he still has a future at Liverpool, and is hoping to be part of Jurgen Klopp’s set-up in the upcoming season, as reported by the Echo.

The controversial Italian striker has enjoyed far from a fruitful time at Liverpool so far, and under Brendan Rodgers he was absolutely diabolical. He clearly puts a lot of the blame on the Northern Irishman’s shoulders, suggesting that his time under Rodgers was disastrous due to his poor rapport with the manager.

“I hope to play at Liverpool next season,” he told Corriere della Sera (via the Echo).

“Milan decided to leave me. There will certainly not be another Mario’s back again moment there.

“I had a fantastic rapport with everyone, including the Presidents, Massimo Moratti and Silvio Berlusconi.”

“It was disastrous only with one… Brendan Rodgers.

“A fight with Roberto Mancini at Manchester City? I was 19 years old and after a tackle on a teammate he pushed me, saying I could’ve hurt the player. That’s it. That happened on the Friday, on the Sunday I was in the starting XI.

“Jose Mourinho liked to put on a show, but he cared for me. He actually enjoyed riling me up because he thought I’d give more on the pitch if I was annoyed. I will only complain about one thing: he didn’t let me play in the Champions League Final. If I had come on, I would’ve scored. I felt it.”

Even under Jose Mourinho and Roberto Mancini he seems to suggest he had a good relationship, blaming his issues on his age as if every player goes through the same problems.

If Balotelli were to turn things around and become a real success at Liverpool we’d be the first to hold our hands up and say fair play to the former Manchester City man, but at the moment it really looks difficult for him to resurrect his career.

It’s unclear whether he’ll be anywhere near Anfield when the new season starts, but if he is then he seems likely to be a long way away from the starting XI, and he’ll have a lot of work to do to get into Jurgen Klopp’s good books.
