The F1 Malaysian Grand Prix was recently held in our Sepang Circuit, but the race wasn’t the only highlight of the event.
An image of a group of foreigners, believed to be Australians, was circulating around social media, as it shows approximately 7-8 of the men only in their underwear. And it wasn’t any ordinary underwear.
The men flashed their Jalur Gemilang undies while they cheered on amongst spectators.
Needless to say, the group was arrested for public indecency and disrespecting the national flag.
So why did they do it? Whether they thought it was a funny prank or because they are realllyyyy patriotic, we will never know.
Malaysians share different opinions, with some condemning the foreigners for shaming the flag, while others see no problem with wearing Jalur Gemilang undies.
“Blardy hooligans..catch them n kick their ass..if they cant respect our flag.. dont come into our country..”
“Nothing wrong. Don’t be overly sensitive. So many other countries have such trunks and bikinis. Some even faces of people. It’s just clothes. Come on. Perhaps these guys are more patriotic. Which one of you views this negatively but didn’t raise a flag in the last three national and Malaysia days?”
“People wear flags all the time. US and UK are amongst the most famous ones. People always see it as a fashion trend so why is the Malaysian flag considered an ‘insult’ then?”
“This is Malaysia lah. Not other countries that can just expose yourself like that. You’re at a public area, so why just wear spenders only?”
What’s your take on this? While public indecency is a big no-no, is wearing a Jalur Gemilang acceptable or not?
