BIGGEST JOKE: MUKHRIZ REBUFFS ‘ABOUT-TO-DIE’ UMNO’S OFFER TO RETURN TO THE FOLD

KUALA LUMPUR – Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) protem vice-president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir snubbed today an invitation from Umno information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa to rejoin the larger Malay party.

The former Kedah mentri besar said he was not interested in the offer, even if it came from the Umno president.

“I am not sure whether to laugh, but I’m not interested as Umno’s time is up,” he told a press conference here.

He added that he is “here to stay” with PPBM.

Annuar yesterday said Mukhriz, former deputy prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, and other recently sacked Umno leaders may return to the party if they wanted to.

He cited Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah as an example, saying the latter rejoined Umno despite having left to form Semangat 46.

Mukhriz and Muhyiddin were sacked in June for questioning the party’s leadership over the 1Malaysia Development Berhad issue.

According to Malaysiakini news portal, Annuar said this when he was asked to comment on blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin’s claims that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir wanting his son to be the prime minister.
