WE ARE NOT LIKE YOU, WE RESPECT THE AGONG – MUKHRIZ TAKES A SWIPE AT ‘THICK-SKINNED’ NAJIB OVER DR M’S MEETING WITH THE KING

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will not seek clarification from the government nor the palace on what transpired at last month’s meeting between its chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

This is according to Bersatu vice-president Mukhriz Mahathir, who said the meeting on the Citizens’ Declaration should remain a private matter, Sinar Harian reported today.

“We respect the palace, and it was a closed-door meeting. The contents should not be released to the public. Let’s leave it at that.

“Bersatu is not asking for any explanation, even though it is unhappy that the statement released by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on what His Majesty said is inaccurate,” Mukhriz is quoted as saying.

Mukhriz was referring to Najib’s statement that the Agong told him that His Majesty cannot be involved in the Citizens’ Declaration, which seeks Najib’s removal from office, as it is unconstitutional.
The statement, issued by the Prime Minister’s Department, was full of wrong information, such as the meeting’s venue, Mahathir’s position, and the party the former prime minister represented, Mukhriz said.

He added that it was puzzling that Najib himself, as the person central to the topic of the discussion, was the one to release the statement, instead of Istana Negara, Istana Anak Bukit or the Agong’s private secretary.

“If the Agong’s stance is considered so important and must be taken seriously, why were the two statements issued by the Conference of Rulers ignored?

“Their criticisms on 1MDB (made on Oct 6, 2015) and the National Security Council Act (on Feb 17, 2016) received no response from Najib nor the BN government,” Mukhriz pointed out.
