Taiping MCA apologises over Agong's installation banner typo
Taiping MCA has apologised over the gross mistake in the banner the party put up in conjunction with the installation of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V at its premises.
The banner, which misspelled the word "pertabalan" (installation) of His Majesty as "perbatalan" (cancellation), was taken down this morning, one week after it went up.
"We must apologise to His Majesty for the error which we had overlooked. We are loyal to His Majesty and the country," Taiping MCA division chief Ang Sui Eng told Malaysiakini.
She said the mistake happened because they did not double check the spelling thoroughly as they were too busy and there were many words on the banner.
"We have been using this advertisement (agency) in the past five years. We put up banners during every celebrations and festivals, including Teachers' Day and Father's Day. This is our way of reminding the community on the celebrations."
Ang said the advertisement agency has been very responsible and no problems arose all this while.
"Of course, we would not want to pin the responsibility on others and will not blame the advertisement agency (over the mistake)," she added.
Ang however expressed her displeasure on those who noticed the mistake but chose to spread it via WhatsApp, instead of informing them to correct the mistake.
"This is something regrettable," she lamented.
"We have received a call from the police special branch, (and we told them) that we are loyal to His Majesty. We are the only one who put up a banner to celebrate the installation of His Majesty. Why not talk about our loyalty ?
"Definitely we have no intention of toppling the ruler," she added.- Mkini
