MOTHER COWED INTO SILENCE BY HUSBAND, ALLOWS DAUGHTER TO BE RAPED 7 TIMES

SARATOK: The mother of a teenager, who allegedly became a sex slave to her father for the past three years, was aware of her husband’s heinous act.

The woman, in her 40s, however, claimed she had been threatened by her husband, which stopped her from intervening, and thus left the teenager in physical and emotional agony.

Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Dev Kumar said investigation is being conducted to ascertain the “truthfulness” of the claim made by the victim’s mother.

“The mother of the victim claimed she was threatened by husband. However, it is too early to verify her truthfulness.

“Investigation is being conducted to ascertain the claim and get to the bottom of things in this case,” Dev told the New Straits Times.

It was reported that the victim, 15, had related her ordeal to a school’s counsellor last week.

The teenager claimed she had been raped by her father for seven times since she was 12.

The victim, who is the only child in the family, claimed she was first sexually assaulted by her father at a hut inside an oil palm plantation near Kabong in 2014.

Since then, the victim had alleged that the other incidents had taken place at the family’s house located at a village in Kabong, near here.

Dev said police had arrested the victim’s 48-year-old father, who is a farmer, at their house at about 11am yesterday.

“Police have obtained a week long remand order until Sept 1 against the suspect. He has been detained at the Saratok police station lock-up to facilitate investigation into the case.

“At the moment, we have yet to seize any exhibits as investigation is still ongoing,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 376B of the Penal Code for incest, which carries the maximum 30 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
