NAJIB, HISHAM HIDE THEIR HAND BUT ALREADY ZAHID IS A ‘MARKED’ MAN: PM LOYALIST JAMAL CALLS FOR PROBE ‘ZAHID MET DR M’ CLAIM

A police report has been lodged against a Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) leader for alleging that Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had discussed his intent to topple Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Md Yunos said in his report that Bersatu supreme council member Muhammad Zahid Md Arif had maliciously slandered the deputy premier.

Jamal was referring to a four-minute YouTube video of Muhammad claiming that Zahid met Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad less than a month after being appointed deputy prime minister.

Muhammad had claimed that Zahid sought Mahathir’s “blessings” to replace Najib Abdul Razak as prime minister within three months.

According to Muhammad, Mahathir had disagreed with this because the choice of party president, and hence prime minister, belonged to the party.

The meeting allegedly took place at Mahathir’s home.

Critics should lodge reports too

Jamal told reporters that the allegation was defamatory.

“It is fitnah (slander). Mahathir and whoever else making these claims should come to the police station to file reports if (the allegations) were true,” he said.

Over the past two days, Mahathir has made a string of allegations against Zahid, following the latter’s attempt to discredit the former premier’s “Malayness”.

This was triggered by Zahid’s decision to claim that Mahathir’s original identity card bore the name “Mahathir a/l Iskandar Kutty”, during the Kelana Jaya Umno division annual general meeting on Sunday.

Mahathir returned fire by claiming that Zahid was a “liar” and had expressed intentions to replace Najib soon after becoming deputy prime minister.

He also urged Zahid to come clean on the source of his “assets”. Zahid refused to comment on this when met by reporters in Parliament.

Be proud of your heritage

On the outcry over Zahid’s methods, Jamal said he supported what the deputy prime minister did and encouraged him to tour the country to spread the word.

He stressed that what Zahid did could not be considered a racial issue.

“We don’t care about the history of a person’s origins. We are a multiracial country. We are all mixed blood, Chinese or Malay or Indian.

“What Zahid wanted to portray was that Mahathir is celaka (damned).

“Twenty-two years after his long history in Umno, he has now formed his own party to discredit and divide Umno,” said Jamal.

He also said everyone should be aware of and accept their origins and identity.

“There is nothing to be ashamed or get angry about one’s identity. I myself (have mixed blood). Both my father and mother are (of) Banjar (origin),” he said.

Jamal was flanked by some 30 supporters during the press meet. The group then screened old video clips of opposition leaders from PAS and PKR questioning Mahathir’s ethnicity.
