‘Rick and Morty’ Co-Creator Finally Gets his McDonald’s ‘Mulan’ Szechuan Sauce From 1998

It turns out “Rick and Morty” co-creator Justin Roiland will no longer need to wait several seasons to get their hands on McDonald’s long-discontinued “Mulan” Szechuan Sauce.

According to Thrillist, the fast-food company provided Roiland a bottle of the condiment after he expressed his love for it via the interdimensional outlaw scientist character.

In the popular show’s Season 3 premiere, which was broadcast on April Fool’s Day, Rick displayed his apparent craving for the limited release sauce used as a promotion for Disney’s “Mulan” in 1998.

“Welcome to the darkest year of our adventures,” Rick tells Morty in the episode. “I’m not driven by avenging my dead family, Morty. That was fake. I’m driven by finding that McNugget sauce. I want that Mulan McNugget sauce, Morty. That’s my series arc, Morty. If it takes nine seasons, I want my McNugget dipping sauce Szechuan sauce.”

Interestingly, the episode sparked renewed interest for the special condiment, with fans demanding McDonald’s to bring the sauce back in production.

McDonald’s heard the infamous plea and a few months later, Roiland revealed during the San Diego Comic Con that he would, in fact, be getting the condiment.

When it finally arrived on Saturday, he happily shared it on Twitter.

Roiland’s jug of Szechuan Sauce even came with a note from McDonald’s which provided a back story as to where it came from:

“We’ll spare you the physics, but turns out, Dimension C-1998M is a place where it’s always 1998,” said the note. “1998 every day. No smartphones, no social media. It’s a weird, scary place. But they’ve got Szechuan Sauce on the regular menu.”

The note also promised that: “A few lucky fans will also get to experience the glory”.

As to how the fast food giant plans to make it happen, we’ll just have to wait and see.
