Report on PKR sanctioning Rafizi is false, says sec-gen

PKR has denied a news report which claimed that the party had reprimanded its vice-president Rafizi Ramli for making statements that were detrimental to the party.

In a statement today, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution said that the report, which quoted anonymous sources, was not true.

"I urge the press to approach official sources for their stories. No disciplinary cases were brought the party's disciplinary committee during the last political bureau meeting.

"PKR will not lose focus from its general election preparations and I urge all party members to unite and strengthen the party.

"Don't be swayed by rumour mongers who are out to turn us against each other," he said.

According to the report by Sin Chew Daily today, the political bureau had acted on PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim's order in issuing a "stern verbal warning" to Rafizi.

Rafizi not at meeting

The report also claimed that Rafizi risked being expelled if he continued to "make noise."

However, the report did not address the fact that Rafizi was not present during the political bureau meeting on Aug 29.

Citing sources, the Sin Chew Dailyreport said Azmin had been instructed by Anwar to continue talks with PAS to forge an electoral pact to ensure straight fights between the opposition and BN.

This, claimed the report, was supported by the majority of political bureau members.

On Aug 27, Rafizi published a 2,000-word essay on why PKR needed to convene a special congress to decide whether or not to cooperate with PAS.

He also provided a list of PKR leaders who were against cooperating with PAS, to support his argument that the party was split on forging ties with their former allies. - Mkini
