‘Country’s leadership must be based on administration that has undergone maturation’
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said yesterday the people should understand that while the country’s leadership must have a diverse composition, it must be based on an administration that has gone through the process of maturation.
The Prime Minister said it should also be based on the social system drawn up by the country’s founding fathers, that is preserving the interests of every community and respecting the religions and customs.
Racial sensitivities had to be taken into account, as well as sharing of wealth and power, he said in his latest post on the “Foundation of Communal Harmony” on his blog, www.najibrazak.com.
“The government of today has long understood these matters and it is for this reason that Malaysia remains harmonious and develops rapidly.
“As such, the government no longer has serious internal ideological disputes and we are able to focus on national development and service to the people,” he said.
Najib said the foundation of communal harmony depended greatly on the structure of the national administration.
“For decades, Malaysia has remained peaceful because the leaders of the various communities in the government have been able to work together with one another.
“We have to realise that even if individuals from various communities, customs and religions make up a team, they may not necessarily be able to work together,” he said.
Najib said diversity not based on social understanding would be unable to create an atmosphere of cooperation as seen in the campaign of certain quarters in the run-up to the Sarawak state election. — Bernama
