KUCHING: Umno Supreme Council member Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said he would propose for the expulsion of Muhyiddin Yassin and Mukhriz Mahathir from Umno at the next Umno Supreme Council meeting scheduled after the Sarawak state election.

Nazri, who is also the tourism and culture Minister, said Muhyiddin (former deputy prime minister) and Mukhriz (former Kedah menteri besar) had “conspired” against Umno by becoming stooges of the Opposition, which is a breach of the party’s principles since they are still members of the party.

The freedom of speech given by Umno to them had been misused and that would be enough evidence to prove their guilt, he told reporters here today.

Nazri said Umno practised democracy and allowed members to criticise, but such criticism must be within the perimeters allowed but Muhyiddin and Mukhriz had crossed the line.

“A party meeting is scheduled after the Sarawak election and I will personally move a resolution to expel both leaders because we need to take action.”

The duo and former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamed were among speakers at a so-called “Save Malaysia” gathering in Jitra, Kedah, last night to talk against the leadership of Prime Minister Najib Razak in the presence of Opposition leaders from PKR, DAP and PAS.

When asked to comment on Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem’s decision to stop several Opposition leaders from entering Sarawak, Nazri said the decision was to preserve peace and harmony in the state.

On the ban on some leaders and activists from Peninsular Malaysia, Adenan had said it was to prevent bigots, extremists and unsavoury characters from entering the state and creating a disturbance during the elections.
